Mr George J McLauchlan FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Qualified from Manchester University in 1989. After junior doctor posts in the North West, I did my specialist Orthopaedic training in Edinburgh with a one-year hip and knee surgery fellowship in Adelaide, Australia.
After I was initially appointed as a lower limb surgeon in September 2001, I rapidly specialised in hip and knee surgery. I now have one of the biggest joint replacement practices in the North West of England, performing between 300 and 400 operations per year (excl. Covid effect). You can get more exact numbers from the National Joint registry here.
I have a number of interests, both in and out of medical practice:
Led a number of advances in practice locally, including an enhanced recovery program for hip and knee replacement. This means a shorter time in hospital and a quicker recovery for patients.
My contributions to the local NHS over the years have resulted in the award of the maximum of 9 local Clinical Excellence Awards.
Have held management posts including Clinical Director and Associate Medical Director at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
I have engaged in clinical research throughout my career. I have over 50 published papers and abstracts. If you wish to view any of these, please follow this link.
Examine medical students for Manchester Medical School and for 10 years to 2019 I was a national examiner for the Intercollegiate Board, examining future orthopaedic consultants at the end of their training.
In recognition of my work with the University of Manchester, in November 2023 I was awarded the title of Honorary Senior Lecturer.
Regional trainer for junior orthopaedic surgeons in the North West Deanery.
Season ticket holder at Preston North End. Previously on medical rota at Preston Grasshoppers now just a fan. I am also a keen cyclist and a member of Chorley Cycling Club.
