Hip Replacements by George McLauchlan

I recommend Mr McLauchlan for hip operations.  He has replaced both of mine very successfully, the right hip first for NHS, the left one second for me as a private patient.  The quality of the service in both cases was similar (apart from the private waiting room!) but the avoidance of the NHS process for the left hip saved me many months of pain.

Late in 2016 I started having acute discomfort in my right hip and groin. Although it took several months navigating the NHS process, by September 2017 the replacement of my right hip had been approved and I chose George McLauchlan on the strength of his reputation.

Mr McLauchlan undertook the operation – a total right hip replacement – at Fulwood Hall on Friday 24th November 2017.  I can’t commend Fulwood Hall and the operation too highly.  Super staff, good food, very clean premises.  The whole thing was first class.  Back home Sunday afternoon!!  The support from all sides was very satisfactory.

I was walking unaided in a couple of weeks and fairly normal by Christmas.  On the 3-month review Mr McLauchlan observed from the X-ray that my left hip would need replacement in due course. It seemed OK at the time but shortly after we had done some serious walking in September 2018 it turned out he was right.  Gosh it hurt!

I chose to “Go Private”.  It wasn’t the Crown Jewels and it was money well spent!  The left hip operation went even better than the first.  I had it replaced on 23rd Dec 2018 and spent a couple of days receiving personal attention in a very quiet Fulwood Hall.  Unfortunately, I developed an infection in mid-January due to a dressing working loose, but insurance arrangements and the NHS looked after me very well.  I was fully active by late March and two years on I still walk 7 or 8 miles regularly at the age of 75, with full movement and no discomfort.

The organisation of both exercises was handled by Mr McLauchlan’s Private Secretary Val Matthews – prompt, efficient and very professional.  Although my knees are getting by at the moment, I know who to contact.
